New Hampshire Motor Speedway cleanup – We had 40 students and parents volunteer
on September 24, 2011 and we raised $1,540. This year, for the first time, student volunteers received community service hours for their participation – 5.5 hours worth! Mark your calendars for next year’s cleanup on Saturday, September 22, 2012. We have committed to send 40 volunteers. This is a great way to earn community service hours.
Break-A-Leg O’Grams at Musical & Play Performances – send a note for $1.00 to one of the performers or tech crew at the fall musical or spring play.
Girls Home Basketball Games concession stand and 50/50 raffle – this is an opportunity to raise funds through sales of pizza, donated candy & baked goods and the 50/50 raffle. Student volunteers earn 4 hours of community service for their participation. The dates are:
Fri, 12/9/11 Fri, 1/6/12 Fri, 1/20/12 Fri, 2/3/12 Fri, 2/17/12
All proceeds from these fundraising events help pay for the Senior Scholarships awarded at Graduation, Summer Scholarships awarded at the Annual Banquet, Trophies, Awards, Participation Certificates, Participation Photos, Teacher and Student Representative Gifts awarded at the Annual Banquet. Last year we were able to give 2 Senior Scholarships of $500 each and 5 Summer Scholarships of $100 each.

Other Activities:
SOPA members and parents help the drama cast & crew by providing meals each night during
the week of the musical and play production. If you would like to help out, please contact
coordinator Sharon Olsson at shazolsson@yahoo.com.
The Drama Department will be selling advertising space in the playbills for the fall musical and spring play. A full page ad is $75, a 4 ¾” square ad is $50, a 2 ¼” X 4 ½” ad is $35, a business card size ad is $25, a 2 ¼” square ad is $20 and a 1” X 4 ¾” ad is $15. This advertising directly benefits the Drama department and goes to pay for costs incurred for productions. If you have a business or would like to advertise, please contact coordinator Anne Bailey at kestyn@metrocast.net.
The International Thespian Society (ITS) Troup 5976 participated in the “Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat” Program again this year. Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat is a national community service program for ITS-member schools to collect canned and dry goods for local charities and food banks. Drama students from Coe-Brown were dressed in costumes to collect food donations during the local Trick or Treat activities in Strafford on October 30 and in Northwood, on October 31. These donations benefited the Northwood Food Pantry.
CBNA Drama, under the direction of Mrs. Elizabeth Lent, is pleased to be hosting the “New Hampshire Educational Theatre Guild (NHETG) Regional Drama Festival” on March 17, 2012. Eight schools from across the state, including Coe-Brown, will be performing their 40 minute productions on the stage in the Gerrish Gym, from early in the morning until late in the evening. Theatre students have a chance to meet other thespians and share their productions. The top five performances of the day will be selected to move on to the NHETG State Drama Festival which will be held at Manchester West High School on March 30 and 31. In addition to Coe-Brown, the schools performing at CBNA that day include Coaconia Christian School, Plymouth Regional High School, Portsmouth High School, Profile School, and White Mountains Regional High School. This event is open to the public. Tickets are $2 per show or $10 for the day and will be available at the door on the day of the festival. This is a great honor for Coe-Brown. If you would like to volunteer to help with this festival, please contact Mrs. Lent at elent@coebrown.org.
CBNA Chorus, under the direction of Mr. David Deardorff, will be participating in the Heritage Music Festival in Boston, MA, from April 26th-29th, 2012. This festival provides a unique “hands on learning” experience. Young musicians benefit from the insight of top adjudicators, the rush of competition, and exposure to other talented groups from across the nation. A number of fundraising events have taken place this year to help defer the cost of the trip including two car washes, coffee sales, candy bar sales and pizza sales. We also ran the girls basketball game concession and 50/50 raffles on Tue 1/3/12, Tue 1/10/12, Fri 1/27/12 & Tue 2/7/12 to raise money. If you would like to make a donation please contact Mr. Deardorff at ddeardorff@coebrown.org.
