JUNIOR YEAR CALENDAR 2005-06




N.B. This is one of the most important years of your education! Colleges will be looking at your grades for this year when you apply next fall, because you may not have yet completed many quarters in your senior year.


August

Review your course selection for the year. Make sure you are challenging yourself as much as possible. Consider new activities with which you might want to become involved for the coming year, without spreading yourself too thin. Many colleges are seeking "well-lopsided" people for their incoming classes who have pursued an interest or passion.

September

Meet with your guidance counselor to sign up for
PSAT's ($13.00 fee)

ASVAB's

Coe-Brown Mini-College Fairs - If you have a class in the 7th block on these days, a planning meeting of 15-45 minutes with counselor will be required in order for you to attend at 1:45. Plan ahead for this. Last minute passes out of class will not be given without it.

20th 1st Coe-Brown Mini-College Fair 1:45-2:45 in Gerrish Gym (Period 3)

29th UNH College Fair open in the evening 7-9 PM for families to attend.

October

Take sample PSAT and review bulletin to prepare for test.

4th 2nd Coe-Brown Mini-College Fair 1:45-2:45 in Gerrish Gym (Period 6)

5th College Fair at Southern New Hampshire University 7-9 PM

15th PSAT's- Saturday at 9:00 A.M. Come well rested, fed, and dressed in layers.

18th 3rd Coe-Brown Mini-College Fair 1:45-2:45 in Gerrish Gym (Period 2)

Consider applying to St. Paul's School Advanced Studies Program or other specialized summer programs.

22ND ASVAB's Saturday at 8:00 A.M. in Gerrish Gym. Come well-rested, fed, and dressed in layers.

November

16th Financial Aid Workshop for parents of seniors- all are welcome to preview situation for next year!

When high school alumni, relatives and friends come home for the holidays, talk with them about their college, military, and work experiences.

St. Paul's applicants: complete first part of application prior to December 1st.

December

PSAT reports come back. Review to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Consider doing the CBNA SAT prep program available through the Help Center in the winter.

Take your midterms seriously!

Attend ASVAB workshop if you took the test. (Date to be announced.)

22nd Deadline to register for January SAT's.

January

Sign up to do the SAT prep course. Details available from the Help Center faculty. This is a three-week commitment; so don't leave it until the last moment!

Begin to plan for a summer job that may help you with career decisions or investigate other possible academic summer programs such as Project Smart or the CATs program at UNH.

4th Late registration deadline for January SAT's with $21 penalty fee extra.

6th Deadline to register for February ACT's.

20th Deadline for late registration for February ACT's with an additional $18 penalty fee.

28th SAT testing.

February

Begin to visit some colleges during your February vacation. Call Admissions offices to request information and find out times for Open Houses and/or tours.

11th ACT testing.

24th Deadline to register for April 1st SAT's. If you are taking SAT II's also or participate in a spring sport, you may want to test in April to avoid conflicts.

March

Listen for the date of the annual Junior Parent Night to be held this month.

Meet with your counselor to plan courses for senior year and work on preliminary list of colleges!

3rd Deadline to register for April ACT's.

8th Late registration deadline for April SAT's with the $21 penalty fee.

17th Teacher Workshop day, a good time for college visitations!

Deadline for late registration for April ACT's with an additional $18 penalty fee.

April

Have you met with your counselor yet?

Plan to visit colleges over April vacation or on Teacher Workshop days.

Participate in the Junior College Workshops.

28th Deadline to register for June SAT's.

5th Deadline to register for June ACT's.

6th SAT testing.

If you have an idea for your Senior Project, write it up for preapproval so that you can get started on it in the summer.

Complete your community service requirement before your senior year starts!
