FIVE COE-BROWN STUDENTS RECEIVE NATIONAL
MERIT RECOGNITION
NORTHWOODHeadmaster David Smith of Coe-Brown
Northwood Academy announced today that five students, Matthew
Blake, Tyler Goodell, Alex Howe, Rebecca Rubinstein, and
Jade Wilcox, have received awards in the 2008 National Merit
Scholarship Program.
Last fall 1.4 million juniors from across
the US, including 9,000 students from New Hampshire, took
the PSAT test. This test serves as both practice for the
SAT, and screening for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Only 167 students from New Hampshire qualified as commended
students, having placed in the top 5% of test-takers
across the nation. Three Coe-Brown students, Tyler Goodell,
Alex Howe, and Jade Wilcox, received Letters of Commendation
for placing in this category.
Additionally, only 74 students in New Hampshire,
or less than 1% of those tested, are recognized as semi-finalists.
This year, two Coe-Brown students, Matthew Blake and Rebecca
Rubinstein, have earned this distinction, and will continue
onto the next round of the competition for some 8,200 Merit
Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, to be offered next
spring.
