STUDENT MAGAZINE RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

NORTHWOOD—Coe-Brown Academy’s student literary magazine, Paragon, has recently received a First Place Certificate from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

The prize, a first place “in single illustration that complements the content of accompanying copy for magazines,” was awarded for the center spread from the 2007 edition Paragon magazine. The illustration was by Kaitlyn Cecchetti ‘07, and the copy was a poem by Brianna Jean ‘09. Addie Moreno ‘09 designed the pages.

Every fall, the Paragon Staff submits entries in many categories for consideration in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Awards. This competition is judged separately from that of the whole magazine. Award categories include poetry, short story, text design, photography and illustration.

The winners are chosen by a panel of professional journalists, writers, art directors and educators. The Association received 11,959 entries in all categories, 1,355 from high school magazines.
